Saarland University has about 14.000 students and offers a broad range of courses in humanities, engineering and sciences. And it is international oriented. As one special research area of Saarland University Computer Science has been built up very early. The computer science competencies are broadened by some very successful and well known institutes working on various IT fields. Some of them are located on the campus, others are located nearby. E.g. the German Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), the Max Planck Institute for Computer Science,
the Max Planck Institut for Software Systems
and Schloss Dagstuhl - Leibniz Center for Informatics.
There are a lot of tight cooperations of our computer science with other research institutes and industry. At present the computer science department participates in the SFB 378 (with computational linguistics), the Center for Bioinformatics and three graduate schools. Cooperations with other disciplines at Saarland University are also very successful, e.g. Business Information Systems, Law Related Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Cognitive Sciences,
etc.
